cycling scene.
Suzuki engineers set out to achieve four
basic objectives with the RG 500 Gamma. To deliver superlative performance in a
500 C.C. engine. To promise the rider uncompromising comfort. And to package it
all in a motorcycle of stunning good looks. They succeeded… beyond question!
The RG 500 Gamma engine will raise a lot of eyebrows in motor cycling circles. It’s big (498
C.C.s worth). It’s powerful (95PS at 9,500 RPM). Yet people will wonder how
come it’s so remarkably light in weight and so compact in size.
The answer : its square-four
configuration. This two-front-two-back layout reduces primary vibration to a
minimum. So less renforcement is needed in both engine and frame..and that
means less weight, less bulkiness, greater rider comfort.
Suzuki’s new Automatic Exhaust Control helps to deliver smooth, quick power across the complete
rev range by automatically adjusting exhaust chamber volume. Also contributing
to superior performance is a new high-efficiency cooling system, along with
Suzuki’s rotary valve induction system.
The flat-side carburetor is designed to
produce the optimum mixture instantly, and works in tandem with rotary disc
valves to provide instantaneous power for roads or racing.
So this is the square four. Amazingly
responsive. Surprisingly light. And competition-proven in better than ten years
of testing under fire!
